Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is a form of treatment for musculoskeletal injuries in horses that is non-invasive and safe for extended use. The treatment works by promoting increased healing through shock wave therapy. This simply means that our unit produces an acoustic wave that stimulates blood circulation, bone growth, metabolism, and several other biological effects. A typical treatment plan includes a physical exam followed by several sessions of shockwave therapy. The average session is 5 to 10 minutes long, performed every 5 to 10 days. A healing period is given after treatment and some conditions may require a “boost” treatment after several months.
Some injuries and conditions that may benefit from Shock Wave Therapy include:
- Tendon injuries
- Ligament injuries
- Chronic Back Pain
- Kissing Spine
- Osteoarthritis
- Stress Fractures
- Bucked Shins
- Bursitis
- Non-healing Wounds
- Scar Tissue
